Linshu County has a long history of artificial cultivation and processing of Salix matsudana. More than 300 years ago, villages along the Yi River in Tancheng, such as Huabu and Zhu Bai, and towns in Linshu such as Qingyun, Baimiao, and Zhengshan, as well as villages in Junan such as Banquan, Shizilou, and Xianggou, and villages on the alluvial plain of the Yi and Shu Rivers in Hedong, began planting Salix matsudana on river beaches and using it to weave tools for production and life. However, it has always been sporadic planting. With the deepening of reform and opening up, Salix matsudana products began to enter the international market, prices continued to rise, and the demand for Salix matsudana increased year by year, thus driving the development of Salix matsudana planting. Especially in the 1990s, the international market demand for green, environmentally friendly, and handmade willow crafts continued to rise, stimulating the development of the willow weaving industry towards scale.
Currently, there are more than 60,000 households in Linshu County engaged in the willow weaving industry, with nearly 200,000 people involved; there are more than 100 series of willow products and more than 10,000 varieties; there are more than 600 willow product companies, and nearly 200,000 people participate in the integrated "dragon" economic pattern of planting, processing, sales, trade, and agriculture, becoming one of the largest gathering places in China that integrates Salix matsudana planting, processing, and trade.
The processing and sales of Salix matsudana products in Linshu County are linked through the "company (factory) + farmer" business model, mainly based on processing orders. Willow weaving enterprises, according to the colors, varieties, and quantities specified in foreign orders, decompose the tasks to various willow weaving processing households for processing, and then the willow weaving enterprises are responsible for collecting and delivering the products. If there are many foreign orders and large processing volumes, the operating enterprises, in addition to "releasing work" to local weaving households, also need to "release work" to nearby townships or even across counties and districts.
After years of development, the Salix matsudana industry has become a pillar industry of Linshu County and a leading export product. It can be positioned as an industry that "enriches the people, enriches enterprises, enriches the treasury, and is environmentally friendly," with broad prospects for development. Salix matsudana products are green, harmless, beautiful, inexpensive, practical, and easy to recycle. With people's increasing awareness of returning to nature and environmental protection, the demand for willow products made by hand from natural materials will increase year by year. From handicrafts and decorations to baskets, baskets, cabinets, chairs, and various household items and pet supplies, the scope is becoming increasingly wider. With the creation of a domestic environmentally friendly and energy-saving society, adhering to the path of sustainable development, green products and recyclable products will be used as substitutes for other products, and Salix matsudana products will gradually be recognized, and the domestic market space will be unlimited!
